Accessibility for disabled visitors is a priority for the Musée Carnavalet – Histoire de Paris.

Individual visits

You will be accompanied from the reception desk to the exhibition rooms. This service is available on request.
Guide dogs and assistance dogs are welcome at the museum. 
The Musée Carnavalet - Histoire de Paris regularly proposes guided visits and workshops that are suitable for disabled visitors. The programme of activities can be found in the calendar section (on the top right-hand side of the webpage).
The public accessibility register can be viewed at the museum reception on request.

Physical disabilities and reduced mobility

The museum has full wheelchair access (wheelchair lifts and ramps are available) except for three small rooms that could not be made accessible. A compensation panel is available so that visitors in wheelchairs can discover these three inaccessible rooms.
Parking close to the museum is difficult. If possible, we recommend that you be dropped off in front of the museum entrance. The closest car park is around 300 m from the museum at 7 Rue Barbette, 75003, Paris.
Wheelchairs can be hired free of charge on request at the museum reception Booking is not required for this equipment.
Disabled toilets are accessible via a lift in the basement at the end of the Signs room. The reception desk can direct you.

Visits in French sign language with a deaf guide are regularly proposed.

Easy read (FALC) booklets in French are currently in production. These booklets will provide practical information and propose itineraries.

Group visit

Awareness-raising visits for professionals and volunteers in the disability sector

Awareness-raising visits are offered to professionals and volunteers in the disability sector who wish to return to the museum independently with their groups. You can consult the dates on the cultural offer page.
The museum team is currently examining the media and resources that the museum makes available to groups visiting independently. Meetings and workshops are organised with professionals and volunteers from the disability sector to reflect on new media and resources together. Free access visit

Free access visits are free of charge for groups of disabled visitors. Booking is required for groups of seven or more, carers included.

You are completely free to create an original itinerary that includes the works of your choice based on your project. To prepare and extend your visit, the Musée Carnavalet – Histoire de Paris website offers free content in the “Collections” section of the site and on the museum’s mobile application (download from the Apple Store or Play Store).

Visits with an intermediary

All of the Musée Carnavalet - Histoire de Paris’s activities (visits, workshops, storytelling and walks) can be adapted for disabled audiences. Guided visits and workshops suitable for visitors with various disabilities form part of the museum’s cultural offer: tactile workshops, sign language visits etc. You can see the cultural offer in the relevant section of the website.

To book an activity with a museum guide: please complete the online booking form and send it to the Visitor Department.  It is preferable to book at least six weeks before the day you plan to visit. If you have any questions, please contact the Visitor Department.

Groups of disabled visitors benefit from a reduced price.
