Parisians have been electing their mayor since 1977. That same year, the inauguration of the RER’s central section, of Châtelet-Les Halles station as well as of the Centre Pompidou in the heart of the capital marked a major milestone. 

From September 22 to October 5, 1985, Christo and Jeanne-Claude presented a wrapped-up Pont-Neuf that made a lasting impression. In 2026, JR paid tribute to them by installing La Caverne du Pont-Neuf. In connection with Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s Parisian projects and echoing the installation La Caverne du Pont-Neuf (15–28 June 2026), the artist JR presented a time capsule made from a material emblematic of Parisian rooftops: zinc.

Large housing complexes are built in peripheral neighbourhoods, as depicted by Yves Bélorgey’s painting. The recent acquisitions by the Musée Carnavalet – Histoire de Paris highlight these transformations through works by artists such as Christo, JR, Vera Röhm, Nathalie Gautier-Hartog, Sylvie Sandjian, Caroline Bouyer, Frédéric Chaume ou Geoffrey James. As for Jean-Claude Gautrand’s work, it reveals how individuals made a life in these new spaces.
